The Family Federation for World Peace and Unification views God as the “True Parent God” as being the “Heavenly Parent.” God is understood as consisting of Divine Character and Divine Image. In particular, Divine Image refers to God’s structure which explains God as having the dual characteristics of original internal nature [Original Sungsang] and original external form [Original Hyungsang] and that of Original Yang and Original Yin. In Unification Thought, a closer inspection of the dual characteristics of Yang and Yin shows that “Yang substantial being” and “Yin substantial being” are concepts that can be used to refer to man and woman. A man who has both Yang and Yin is referred to as a “Yang substantial being” that is a unified being of Sungsang and Hyungsang with Yang characteristics, while a woman who has both Yang and Yin is referred to as a “Yin substantial being” that is a unified being of Sungsang and Hyungsang with Yin characteristics. On this point, it is believed that God exists with the dual characteristics of Original Yang and Original Yin manifested more fundamentally as God’s Original Image and not as attributes subordinate to Sungsang and Hyungsang. Ultimately, as the First Cause of the created world, the root cause of Sungsang and Hyungsang and, at the same time, the root cause of masculinity and femininity, God can be understood as the “Father and Mother”, in other words, the single “Heavenly Parent.”
